Brief Answer:
The test may show positive for few weeks to 3 months.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, welcome back.
Alcohol is tested mainly in blood. Moderate to heavy alcohol use may give rise to raised markers for alcohol for many weeks to months.
1. Serum GGT is elevated above normal level for 2 to 6 weeks after last alcohol use.
2. CDT is positive for 2 to 4 weeks after last alcohol use.
3. MCV may take up to 3 months to normalise

Will alcohol show up in a urine test for the times mentioned in 1.,2. & 3 above ?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Alok Sinha (48 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
No, it will not be detected in urine.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for follow up query.
Alcohol will not be detected in urine. It is because alcohol has no active metabolite that can be excreted in urine. Alcohol is metabolised by liver. From testing of urine recent alcohol intake or chronic alcohol intake can not be tested.
