Question: Hello Doctor,
This question is for my Dad (61 y/o). He went to pick up a heavy pot earlier in the day and caught his muscle in his lower back. We gave him one dose of Neorelax MR at ~1 PM followed by Combiflan and Diclofenac at ~6 PM, but his pain has not subsided.
He can move his legs and upper body a little but cannot get out of bed and complains of sharp pains. There is no swelling. We have been applying a cold compress on and off.

Please advise.

Brief Answer:
Can be an acute disc prolapse due to a lumbar muscle spasm.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
A sudden and sharp pain with inability to get up from the bed can be due to an acute disc prolapse after a lumbar muscle spasm. Since there is no relief even after a pain killer and oral muscle relaxant it is best to get an MRI scan of the back done for proper diagnosis and physiotherapy like lumbar traction might help if it is actually due to a disc prolapse.
Till then avoid all painful movements and lie straight in bed. Continue with Neorelax MR twice a day and combiflam in case the pain is persistent. Proper bed rest will also help in healing and subsiding the pain.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
