Question : Hello, I've been having some stomach pains for a little over a week now. It happens in different areas around my stomach, but mostly in the middle around my belly button. I've also been constipated (not able to poop as much and pooping balls). I've also had lack of an appetite, although my stomach feels empty so I eat anyway (my appetite has come back slightly but I think my anxiety is making it worse). I saw my primary care doctor about this and she felt around my stomach and said everything felt normal. She also listened to my stomach and didn't say anything was wrong. I am also due for my period today and it has yet to fully come (having some very light spotting) and I am on birth control so it should be here by now. I have pretty bad anxiety so I'm not sure if thats why my period is light.

Brief Answer:
Spotting is not related to constipation.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Periods are light due to the birth control pills you are on. It changes the level of hormones in blood hence may cause spotting.

As far as pain in gastric area is concerned its due yo constipation. Constipated food releases gas which cause inflammation in intestines and compresses the nerves hence causing pain.

unrefined food such as whole grain cereals, bran, honey and lentils; green leafy vegetables, like spinach, beans, lettuce, celery, asparagus, carrot. Adding some fat to meals or increasing the size of a meal such as breakfast can help create the pressure Secondly you should increase the amount of plant foods they consume to get more fiber in their diet. Take minimum of 40 gram daily. Eat 2 cups of fruit 3 cups of vegetables and about 35 grams of fiber per day
fruits.

Human gastrointestinal tract is colonized by number bacteria of different species and subspecies. They are responsible for proper digestion of food. Depletion of this flora due to surgery can lead to severe constipation and digestive problems. So take probiotic daily.

Hope I was helpful.
Thanks.
