Brief Answer:
different possible causes

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Numbness, pins and needles, stabbing pain- usual imply that there is abnormal function of the nerves (called peripheral neuropathy). It can be temporary or permanent.

There are different possible causes such as--(1)trauma to the nerves eg arthritis of the spine or hip can affect nerves that are responsible for sensation in the leg and thigh area
(2) diabetes
(3)infections such as shingles
(4)low levels of vitamin b12 and folate
(5)abnormal levels of vitamin b6
(6)thyroid disease
(7)autoimmune conditions such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis
(8)neurological conditions such as MS
(9)exposure to toxins
(10)idiopathic-- the cause is not found

If it continues then you may need to be assessed, this may include an x ray of the hip and back to see if any changes here may be causing your pain and also the other symptoms.

Blood tests may also be needed as well

There are meds that can help with pain and neuropathy that your doctor may prescribe to help you

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
