Question : For the past 3 days I've been experiencing abdominal pressure/pain, the pain is also on my mid back. I've noticed the discomfort is greater when I eat. I feel really bloated as well. I don't have a gallbladder so I know it's not gallstones.

Brief Answer:
Mild indigestion with dyspepsia.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Our gastrointestinal tract has a forward propulsive movement (peristalsis) that moves the food material forward as it is digested, absorbed and finally expelled as feces. If somehow this movement gets hampered, food along with the digestive juices would stagnate. Degradation of undigested food in the intestines by the intestinal bacteria would lead to excess gas formation. This would compress the intestines which could apply pressure on nerves passing through them which may radiate to back also.

In order to relieve yourself, you need to do the following:
* Take small but frequent meals. Avoid long gaps between meals.
* Avoid alcohol intake (if it a part of your habit).
* Take Prilosec (omeprazole). Along with it take a probiotic like VSL#3.
* Take plenty of green leafy vegetables as well as other sources of dietary fibers. Take fiber supplements like isabgol/psyllium husk or senna. I would insist you to increase your dietary fiber intake.
* Regular morning walk and exercise to keep the bowel movements proper.
* Take curd or yogurt on daily basis. It contains beneficial bacteria and should help.
* Stress reduction has a very important role to play. Yoga and meditation should help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Is it ok to take ibuprofen for the pain? Is it normal for the pain/discomfort to be greater while lying down or sitting down? I started taking nexium every morning when the symptoms started but my back and stomach pain has not changed, is it typical for it to last a few days?

Brief Answer:
Follow up.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Yes, medicines would take a few weeks to help.

Take Ultracet instead of Ibugesic.

Ibugesic would increase acidity.

Just follow what I suggested for 3 days and revert back.

Hope I have answered your query.
