Question : My concern is rapid pounding heart beats that wakes me up at night but have also felt during the day. I have a warm body sensation and very dry tongue when I wake up. After 3 trips to the ER and several test done, no answer to my situation. Test came out normal. What could be causing the episodes? I take no medication at all so there are no side effects to blame.

Brief Answer:
I would recommend as follows:

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Your symptoms could be related to a sleep disorder or cardiac arrhythmia.

A metabolic disorder can not be excluded either.

Coming to this point, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician and performing some tests to investigate for the possible causes:

- A cardiac ultrasound to examine your heart structure and function
- A chest X-ray study
- Thyroid hormone levels for thyroid dysfunction
- Blood electrolytes for possible imbalances
- An ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG monitoring to examine your heart rhythm trends for a prolonged time and investigate for possible cardiac arrhythmia.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.

Hope to have been helpful!

Dr. Sharka Thanks for your prompt response. Most of the tests recommended had been done already while at the ER. Doctors tell me is anxiety but I doubt it. That's the answer given to people when things get difficult to find. There are too many stories related to misdiagnosis or no diagnosis to begin with. Something has not been right for a while. I will follow your recommendations again. My first step is to find a caring and competent cardiologist that have time to listen. I also feel my head like congested and gets better when I'm not lying down and sometimes like strange movements in my body. Weird. Could that be related to heart issues.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

In my opinion, the movements in your body and the feeling in your head are related to the heart.

In this regard, I would recommend checking your thyroid hormone levels for thyroid dysfunction which could trigger this situation.

But I would recommend performing all the above tests, I order to completely exclude any cardiac disorders.

Hope you will find this answer helpful! Wishing all the best.
Regards,
Dr. Iliri
