Question : Dear Dr

My wife who is 48 years old home maker. Her height is 150 cms . Until mid of Dec, 2017 she used to be weight around 50 to 53 kgs and used to get monthly menstrual cycle on time.
After Dec, 2017 she got her monthly time in April ,2018. During these 4 months lot of changes in her body.

1. Weight increased to 58kgs
2. Breast size also increased and clothes that were fitting properly earlier not fitting
3. more fatness in the Belly,Hips and Thighs area.

Her daily work stretches between 8 to 10 hrs household works involves lot of walking within the house itself.
Earlier she used sit on floor and now finding very difficult to get up from floor.
Knee Pain also started.
She always feels her body temparature is high, she sweats a lot and feels week many times.memory loss also more compared with earlier.

The main concern with weight gain is because she has undergone Cheilectomy surgery on her left feet in Sep,2017 and i do not want to aggravate the problem again due to weight gain.

Is this weight gain due to menopause? Her weight need to be in control to avoid the issue with left feet.
There were no other known medical issues than these.

can you please suggest remedy for avoiding weight gain .

Brief Answer:
Get her thyroid and blood sugar checked..

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Weight gain is influenced by diet and life style. She needs to balance her dietary intake and physical activities including exercises to loose weight. But yes other parameters including menopause could be contributing to the weight.

In addition to menopause, diabetes and hypothyroid are two more condition that needs to be ruled out. If you haven't met a gynecologist yet, I will recommend you meet one to confirm her menopause state. She also needs test her blood sugars (fasting blood sugar / post prandial blood sugar / Hba1c) and thyroid hormones (T3/T4/TSH).

Hope this answers your question. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Regards
