Question : my father takes 38 unites of insulin plus glycomet 500sr in the morning and 20 unites of insulin and glycomet 500sr at night, tonight his sugarlevels post dinner is 300 what should i do now

Control of diabetes involves a strict dietary restriction(under advise of a dietitian) diet with low glycolic index food with optimum protein ,
vitamins and minerals is advised. Regular daily exercise for 45 minutes and suitable medicines to control blood sugar at optimum level.

He needs complete diabetic profile testing. to know about his normal diabetic parameters... his cholesterol &triglycerides in blood. HbA1c test indicates blood sugar levels through last 3 months .The investigations need 12 - 14 hours fasting before blood collection. Apart from this a systemic check for finding/excluding other systems involvement in the disease process. Hence, evaluation of kidney function, heart check up and eye check up is essential to prevent complications of high blood sugar level.

Suitable insulin dosage along with other antidiabetic blood is decided by frequent estimation of blood sugar daily to arrive at a confirmed dosage of antidiabetic medication.
Hospitalization is advised for getting optimum dose under a dietitian's care.
