Question : Hi,

I had an egd done and the result came back mild gastritis. I’m concerned about an underlying cause. I don’t drink, do drugs and was negative for H plyori. I feel relatively fit and healthy and aside from a high ferritin my bloodwork has been normal as of a few months ago. Metabolic panels and cbcs have been normal. I’m going to be doing more BW soon

Brief Answer:
Can be allergic or due to anxiety or may be idiopathic(cause unknown).

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Have gone through your details,
In your case it could be related to food.Yes every body is different and any thing from external world which we put inside our body may act as a antigen(foreign molecule). This confuses our immmune system and it starts to deal with that particle like a toxic molecule hence causing inflammation in that area. When exposed repeatedly to the same allergan inflammation gets permanent and patient is labelled as having idiopathic(cause unknow) Gastritis.
Most common allegans are Teas (green and white in particular),dairy, peppermint,Wheat XXXXXXX Coconut water andGreen leafy vegetables.
However you can find out your body is allergic to which food or allergan.
I would suggest you to go for a test called allergy test in which you would be tested for allergy for a number of allergans we are exposed to in normal life.
Secondly try to figure out possible triggers like food or anxiety in your case by yourself.
Make a diary and mark your symptoms on a scale of 1 to 10 every day for 4 weeks and write down what you ate your sleep anxiety levels etc.
After 4 weeks try to see if something common emerges.
Feel free to follow up.
Regards!

i actually have been drinking a lot of green tea lately. Could this combined with anxiety play a role in the actual causation of gastritis?

Detailed Answer:
Hello again my dear patient,
Thanks for follow up,
Like every part of body stomach and esophagus are also supplied by nerves arising from autonomous nervous system(In lay mans language this nervous system is controlled by your brain and not you).Increased levels of anxiety hyperstimulates these nerves which causes oxyntic cells in stomach to secrete more acid.In long runs this results in a condition termed as chronic inflammation or gastritis.

Rx
Relaxing the autonomous nervous system by using Benzodiazepines(Prescription drug) however supplements like Lactium are also effective.

Hope i answered your query well.

thank you dr last question.

so drinking caffinated beverages, green tea, and having prolonged anxiety for a few months could have caused this inflammation? was worried about something like pancreatic cancer

Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
Pancreatic cancer would cause number of symptoms.
And as per the details given by you;You are basically symptomless with just mild gastritis(diagnosed on endoscopy). So there is no reason to think about pancreatic pathology.
Lastly acid is secreted only by stomach so gastritis is suggestive of something related to stomach and not pancreas.
Hope i answered your query well.
Suggestion to improve answers are welcome.
