Question : Not sure what to do. I went into the emergency room 4 days ago with chest pain. Doc said I may be having a heart attack.. but they could not determine. Also said I had some lung issue from past smoking .. 2 small noduals on a lobe.
They sent me home with Norco prescription that lasted 3 days. I have 1 pill left. I have been taking Norco 5/325 MG tablets once every 6 hours. If I stop taking this I go into severe pain right front/side. My question is what do I do when I run out .. take Tylenol? If so how much.?
I don't have a regular doctor so only option is emergency room. Or should I go to an urgent care clinic and explain the situation and ask for another Norco prescription? I have no insurance also.

I would recommend as follows:

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Before taking another prescription of Norco, it is important performing further tests to determine the possible cause underlying your chest pain.

For this reason, as you do not have a regular attending physician, I would recommend going again to the ER for a physical exam, a resting ECG and cardiac enzymes and a pulmonary angio CT Scan in order to investigate for possible pulmonary embolism.

Some other blood lab tests are necessary too (complete blood count, PCR, ESR, D-Dimmer levels, etc.). If suspicions of coronary artery disease or heart attack are raised, a coronary artery angiogram may be needed.

In the meantime, I recommend taking Tylenol 500mg four times daily, or every 5 hours. You can take also ibuprofen 400mg three times daily in combination with Tylenol 500mg four times daily. This will help have a better control on the pain.

It is also necessary to closely monitor your blood pressure values (pain and ibuprofen may raise blood pressure values).

Hope you will find this answer helpful! Wishing you good health.

Regards,
Dr. Iliri
