I would explain as follows
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
In the majority of cases may be due to one of the following causes:
- Cardiac disorders leading to what is caused heart failure. It is necessary performing a physical exam coupled with additional tests (chest X rays study, cardiac ultrasound, natriuretic peptides, etc.) in order to properly exclude or confirm such an alternative.
- Renal of liver dysfunction may lead to fluid retention, decreased blond proteins content and consequently to edema. Certain medical tests like liver and renal function tests could help to differentiate such disorders.
- Peripheral veins drainage disorders such as venous insufficiency, compressing abdominal masses, etc. may be the reason for swelling. A Doppler ultrasound of limb veins would be indicated in this regard.
Other health issues such as anemia, certain systemic, metabolic, neoplastic disorders should be excluded as well.
Coming to this point I recommend discussing with your attending physician on the above mentioned issues.
Hope to have been helpful in this regard. In case of any further questions, feel free to ask me again.
Regards,
