Question : wondering if I have heart disease? I see a cardiologist tomorrow evening but im curious. A few weeks ago I was in the hospital after being prescribed prednisone which made my heart rate go up to 200 and my temp to 103 AND my WBC was also high. (all of this happened on July 25th) I was immediately treated for thyroid storm but when my tsh results came back they were normal so then they gave me beta blockers and treated it as sepsis. They later on told me that I had BV and that I could go home with Flagyl. While in the hospital I had a series of labs done one being a1c which was 5.4. Up until a week ago I went to get more labs now my level is 6.5 and my HS CRP level is 16. Im so worried. All EKGs were fine, chest xrays and heart blood work was fine. Im left with a dry cough, what feels like gas in my chest all the time and fatigue and dizziness. Please give me some insight

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I passed carefully through your concern and would like to explain that there is nothing specific confirming you might have any cardiac issues problem.

It seems that you have suffered from a thyroid glands inflammation which needs to be carefully monitored in order to avoid important chronic consequences.

What may be concerning considering your actual labs are:

- an increased glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C) level showing glucose metabolism impairment and the risk of getting to a serious health condition such as diabetes;

- an increased hs CRP telling a pro-inflammatory condition. Coming to this point it is necessary to follow further medical investigation to define the exact cause of inflammation (whether a persisting thyroid inflammation or something else).

Some preliminary measures, such as life-style and diet modification, possible high body weight control, avoiding close smoking contact and engaging in more daily physical activity would be a rational approach to a healthy and long life.

You need to check lab tests as follows: fasting and post-prandial blood glucose level, repeat HbA1C, a complete blood count, thyroid hormones level, liver and renal function tests, blood lipids profile.

I recommend discussing with your attending physician on the above mentioned issues.

Hope to have been helpful to you!

In case of any further questions feel free to ask me again.

Kind regards,
Dr. Iliri

Hello again!

I think that even those nonspecific complaints (dry cough, fatigue, gas feeling, etc.) will get a right answer after checking those medical tests and clarifying the issue of ongoing inflammation.

I am glad to have been helpful to you!

Please, let me know when you get those tests answers in order to give a second professional opinion here!

Wishing you all the best!

Regards,

Dr. Iliri
