Can IUD Cause Heavy Periods With Pain?

I am 34 and have had a copper coil fitted for just under 12 months, this was due to a diagnosis of epilepsy last year.
This is my 2nd coil as the 1st dislodged after about 3 months. Since having this coil fitted I have had heavy periods that last 7-8 days and I am having pain a week before and 2 weeks + after. the pain is intermittent but is a sharp pain rather than an ache. I can feel it in different areas but mostly on the sides of my womb (tubes) but also occasionally near my anus too which is confusing.
Does this mean it has dispelled again or is it something more serious?
