Can A IUD Cause Prolonged Periods?

Hi, I had a coil changed, my periods had been going on for about a week and a half before that and after the coil change it's almost 2 weeks now, it has not stopped and it's heavy and very smelly now, I was on cysterene, the dr said I should stop it after a week of the change of the coil , I did, but the periods have not stopped, I'm starting to get dizzy and I feel faint sometimes, I'm 43 yrs. Please help.
