Can A Painful Mole Be Melanoma?

i have a mole on my inner thigh that seemed to appear overnight and im 37 years old this mole would often itch ive scratched at it before recently itched it and may have picked at it a lil not enough to make it bleed but enough to cause black scabbing i picked at it because the edges seems rough and scaly now where the rough edging was is black scap from me scrathing it the rough edges seemed smooth last night this morning its black scab where the rough edges have been scraped of by me. Now it dont itch took care of that lol but it hurts maybe from picking and is tender. Could this be melenoma i know biopsy need to be done but im broke will the emergency room help me and is this mole potiential cancerous
