Can Injury To Lower Back Cause Lumber Strain?

Age: 50, HT:5'10", WT: 170
History:Fell many years ago, hurt lower back, treated after accident and episoe of physical therapy. shortly after start feel pain in my left side when bending or lifting. Dr. Diagnosed LLQ pain no lifting times 2 weeks. No meds prsrcibed. However, after returning home the pain was more intense radiating from my back to my side. Dr. diagnosed lumbar strain and prescribe meds.
QUESTION: Is it possible for the injury to my lumbar to cause pain in my left lower quadrant?
