Does Missing Birth Control Pills Cause Delayed Periods?

I am an 18 year old female.I have been on birth control for about four years now. My period has always been regular, even before birth control. I have been on a few different kinds of BC. This past month i have been missing a few pills here and there, and so my body trys to start my period and i have a small one for a few days. Well, i took my last pill sunday, instead of saturday like im supposed to. I was supposed to start my period on Tuesday, and it is now friday. Does missing a few pills cause you to not start your period? I know i am not pregnant so i dont know what to do
