How Can Bacterial Vaginosis Be Treated?

I have self diagnosed as having Bacterial Vaginosis. I just recently started having sex after 25 years of abstinence- am 67 years old ;-) My symptoms are a mild fishy odor, slight irritation of the vaginal walls, and a yellowish discharge. The discharge is minimal, as i have very little secretions. I am aware of , but have not yet tried all the home remedies. I do have an appointment with my OB-GYN doc in a couple of weeks to discuss the challenges of sex at my age ( and his), but was wondering if you normally treat this with antibiotic, and if so, which one do you prefer?
