How Safe Is Taking Sinemet ?

My mom is on Sinemet 25 to 100 strength 3 times a day, instead of getting better she suffers from the following Confusion, loss of memory, dystonia, poor balance and tight rigid muscles. All of these occurred after using Sinemet. I started her on Physical therapy and reduced her Sinemet by one quarter snap of a pill per month. She showed signs of improvement and in 6 months we were down to half snaps of the 25 to 100 strength 3 times a day. The family then listened to 2 MD Neurologists and decided to snap her pills at half snap per week. I protested she would fall apart and crash. We are now back to 3 pills 25 to 100 strength once a day. The 2 MD Neurologists are unimpressed with the improvements she made before their interference and want to increase her Sinemet. We are in disagreement whether what she suffers from is symptoms of the disease or side effects of the drug. Sinemet. Does Sinemet cause these side effects. My mom is 81 yrs.
