How To Control Bleeding Caused Due To Birth Control Pills?

I currently on the birth control pill (trisprintec) and have been for sevearl months. Last month and this month, I have expereinced breakthrough bleeding as a result of being a few hours late on my pill at the beginning of the second week. I begin my third week tomorrow. Is there any way to stop this breakthrough bleeding? I have read that if you double up on birth control pill for a few days, that will help. Does that work?
