How To Overcome The Acute Onset Excruciating Headache?

I had an acute onset excruciating headache on at 9:50 a.m. Sunday morning. I have a high pain tolerance and am not usually concerned about aches and pains. This pain immediately stopped me in my tracks I was holding the top and right side of my head and sobbing. It was the worst pain I have every felt which is saying something since I have had 5 children. I had a doctors appointment already scheduled for something else on Monday so I did not go to the emergency room although my husband wanted to take me. I saw the doctor on monday and explained my symptoms, extreme headache, nausea, generally being out of it and sleeping until 3 pm -- all unusual for me. She ordered a cat scan which I had on Monday. According to my primary care doctor the scan showed what she referred to as a small growth probably benign in the frontal lobe. She ordered an MRI with contrast. However, my insurance company required a peer to peer review before approval. Doctor had her office call and ask if she ordered the MRI without contrast could they give ok without a peer to peer review. They said they would approve an MRI without contrast. Should I see another physician who will fight the insurance company to get the mri with contrast. My family has a history of brain tumors. My mother had a tumor in her pituitary and her sister died of a brain tumor (although we don't know what kind) when she was a little girl. This is now Friday and I am still waiting for the doctor to rewrite the order so that her office staff can send it over to the central staffing at the hospital. Is this all pretty typical? Should I be worried?
