HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If the pain is in the muscle and not in any of the joints then it is likely muscle trauma only and imaging may not be needed to check for any associated joint problems.

Because the trauma was severe, it would cause a high level of discomfort for a period of time.

Treatment would involve: (1) rest as much as possible,
(2)application of ice packs initially (in a few days, if pain continues, will use heat pads)
(3)compression bandage if there is any swelling
(4)the use of anti inflammatory pain killers such as ibuprofen, cataflam or naproxen
(5)elevation of the limb would also help with any swelling

If the pain continues or worsens then you may need to see your doctor.

I hope this helps
