How To Reduce Swelling And Pain After Hitting Knee?

Hi, Four weeks ago I landed heavily on my right knee playing rugby. It swelled and was obviously painful (weighing just over 18 stone) so I applied ice and rested it and it went down. It then swelled again so I went to A&E who did an x-ray and they said there was no bone damage and it would heal. Today it is full of fluid like water - not massively swollen but soft and spongy on the right side of the knee. I have it up with ice on it, have taken Ibruprofen but is is common for this to occur after a trauma? Lewis
