How To Relieve Chronic Back Pain With Possible Compression Fracture In Vertebra?

My husband is a Marine and suffers from back pain, after 2 years of complaining to the drs they did an x-ray and it revealed a compression fracture in one of his vertebrae. He will be doing a 3rd deployment in November to Afganistan and his back has been giving out on him, stretches, pain medicine, and muscle relaxers are not helping at all. What do you recommend?
