How To Treat Split Thumbnail?

I have a thumbnail that split and has not grown back in 8 months. It appears to to be trying to grow out but it looks like in the bottom right portion of the nail, a top nail is trying grow over the new nail.. It is very ugly & I would like to know how to resolve it, please!
