Is Hsg Test Required For Infertility Treatment?

hi doc!!
we r a married couple since 4 yrsnow.. we never tried for a baby 4 2 yrs.. now we r trying bt shes nt getting preg..visited a gynae..she asked for thyriod, blood, hiv n some other tests,,reports r normal..
nw she asks 4 hsg test..
is it reqd to do tht test really?
further i feel r frequency is less of love making may b thgsi wud b d reason..n second she gets irregular dates..

pls suggest
