Suggest Remedy For Sore Tender Cuticle In The Thumb

Seems silly but...I had a cuticle that was torn all the way down the side of my thumb nail to the base. I used cuticle clippers to cut the hanging piece off at the base. It was sore for a couple days (like you'd expect) but now it is red and puffy and very tender, and it's been 4 days. ?? It's so sore that when I put pressure on the underside of my thumb, it hurts. Thanks.
