Suggest Treatment For Severe Jaw Pain In An Elderly Person
My 65 year old brother just finished 39 radiation treatments for prostate cancer Wed. Sept. 21 and is having severe jaw pain. Is this a normal side effect? His blood pressure is normal to only a little high. He s been to urgent care twice but is not getting a satisfactory answer. Thank you.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of severe jaw pain in an elderly person pain which seems to be due to bruxism, TMJ dysfunction and it could be due to high points. The symptoms can also occur due to arthiritis in advance age . I would suggest you to visit oral surgeon once and get complete examination done and start treatment after complete examination. You should go for OPG examination. You should use night guard if it is due to bruxism. Go for facial muscle relaxing exercises. Avoid sharp and sticky food and take light and soft diet. You should maintain complete oral hygiene. Doctor may also refer you to orthopedic surgeon for arthritis .Take muscle relaxants and try to reposition jaw whenever it will cause pain.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
