What Are The Benefits Of Full Abdominal Hysterectomy?

I am scheduled for a hysterectomy on Dec 22, 2011. I have had heavy bleeding for quite some time. I just saw my surgeon yesterday and he says that my uterus has expanded to 20 inches long, 10 inches high and 24 inches wide. He says normal is 6-10 inches. He wants to do the DiVinchy surgery but says he cannot assure that removing a uterus that size would be accompolished thru the small incisions of a DiVinchy. Are there any benefits to a full abdominal hysterectomy? I know DiVinchy should heal faster I can return to work earlier, but I am terrified of being cut open. I am 44 years old and single and afraid of being out of work too long and the recovery time as I live alone and only have a friend coming from out of state for a few days to help me.
