What Causes Continuous And Heavy Vaginal Bleeding?

I am 49 yrs old and bleeding for 8 months non stop, at start it was very heavy with clots and was put on low dose birth control. I got off the pills because of no longer having insurance. Decided to go naturally. as soon as i stopped the pills i didnt bleed as heavy as i thought i would. Ive been off for a month now. period is now very light. Could i be at the end of this nightmare, ive had for 8 months straight, non stop bleeding?
