What Causes Facial Swelling?

I am a 52 year old white female who began suffering from periodic facial swelling (under eyes, between eyes and bridge of nose, and forehead - near hairlne and above eyebrows) which began suddenly this past July and have continued to become more severe. The swelling began in the bridge of my nose, between my right eye until it would alternate between left and right. I did not feel any itching or other symptom other than some tearing. I would go without any symptoms for a week or a few days and then it would happen again. The swelling would occur overnight and last a few days. Then I began getting big lumps on my forehead which started with a slight itch and bump which would grow about the size of an almond. The lump would slowly disappear in a day or two. At some point I began getting both the lump and swelling (bridge nose) at the same time. Each time the swelling last for longer periods of time (up to 1 week). The lump or bumps have now also begun lower on the bridge of my nose. 2 weeks ago the bump appeared (I had been none symptom for 2 weeks) and spread (widened) to half of my forehead and was almost gone after 5 days when I got another bump on top of it which began causing my eyes and nose to swell (this was Thursday night) by Friday night the swelling had become severe to where I had to take cortizone. Since this I am afraid to eat or drink anything.
