What Causes Irregular Periods And Brown Black Discharge?

Hi I have been suffering irregular periods for nearly 3 years now and have been having arround 2 a month and they last around 7 days on average , I had a period nearly 2 weeks ago and the past few days I have been having a lot of brown/black discharge I took a pregnancy test which came back negative what is it?
