What Causes Itchy Ribs?

I'm a 48 Yr old male. I started about 3-4 days ago with a icthing feeling on my right side on top of the ribs and goes around my back. Now it is feeling like it is bruised and alittle back pain. My wife has started making our own laundry soap. Could that be it?
