What Causes Late Periods Even After Taking Meprate?

usually my periods are irregular.after three months of marriage my periods didnt come.i think i was pregnant and i consult a doctor.,but the result was negative...The doctor gave meprate tablets for 5 days but my periods didnt come after taking the tablets...what is the reason for this?
