What Causes Pain In The Scalp?

Fo the past five to seven years, It hurts when I touch a certai area on the top back part of my scalp. Originally it wa one small spot only, but now is wider. Recently when I touch the area, it feels spongy and it still hurts for a while aftrerwards...similar to a headache, but on top of the scalp. Do you have any idea what causes this?
