What Causes Severe Pain Along Femoral Nerve Path?

Hi, I am suffering from severe pain along the femoral nerve path. It is much worse at night and when I relax. This started almost 6 months ago and is getting worse. My doctor told me after a very quick examination that I have a prolapsed disc and prescribed anti inflammatories. These have no effect at all, might as well take smarties Keep going back to GP, different anti inflammatories, pain killers, but nothing works. Strong pain killers do give me 1 and a half to 2 hours relief at night. Was sent for a hip x ray yesterday (dont understand why hip) and have to wait 7 - 10 days for results. Have had enough now. Really need a good, pain free nights sleep. Any suggestions please Thanks Gill
