What Causes Sudden Eruption Of Pimple With Swelling And Inflammation Around It?

I am a 62 year old woman who used to have a acne. I still get an occasional minor zit but very rarely. I woke up the other day and saw a zit forming. I never touched it and now the area around it is swollen and inflammed. I tryed teating it and almost everything I put on it burns. What can i do to get rid of it?
