What Causes Tingling/burning Sensation With Blotchy Areas On Forearms?

Hi, I am a 48 year old female and about 1 year ago I started experiencing a tingling/chemical burning sensation on both of my forearms periodically during the day, but more noticible in the evening sometimes even waking me at night. Then, I started noticing irregular darker blotchy areas were appearing on my forearms. Whenever i get that burning sensation more and more pigmentation occurs. I've been told it's Melasma, but because of the burning/tingling I'm wondering if it could be something else.
