What Causes Very Light Periods Which Is Unusual?

I have always had regular heavy cycles that last 4-5 days since i started 12 years ago but for the last 3 cycles they have been very light lasting 2-3 days with alot of brown spotting. I have taken pg test that are neg. Is this normal or should I be concerned. By the way I am TTC. Thanks
