What Could Be The Purple Bruise Under Toe Nail?

My two year old has had a black/purple bruise under her right large toe nail for several weeks. I don't recall any injury to her toe and it doesn't appear to have ever bothered her, but I'm starting to worry it may be a symptom of something else since it's been there a while. She is otherwise in good health.
