What Is The Reason For Numbness In Toe After Being Infected?

Hi, I had what I now assume to be an infection of the cuticle on the big toe of my left foot. I went to the beach and when I got back pus drained from it. The skin is now clear but the nail is partially detached at the cuticle. I wouldn't be concerned and would just expect the nail to grow out but I'm now having numbness in the toe. The rest of my toes are fine, and I have no history of problems with my feet or nails. I also do not have a family history of diabetes, nor do I have it myself. Why would the toe be numb?
