What Is The Reason For Prescribing Lovenox?

Three years ago, my mom was diagnosed with Discoid Lupus. This was diagnosed by performing biopsy. However, her blood test cam back negative. They decided it was Discoid Lupus and not Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). She had couple of dark patches in her skin and now it has extended to her neck area. Her dermatologist treated her with all sorts of topical steroid products. She was also given prednisone and plaquenil for a while. Four months ago, they took her off all the medicines. Recently, they performed another biopsy and said she actually has Lychen Planus Pigmentosis (LPP). Now, her current dermatologist is raving that she has consulted with “world renowned” dermatologist and has a treatment plan that consists of Lovenox shots, Vitamin A, and another type of topical ointment. I am fine with everything but feel a little weary about Lovenox. It’s a blood thinner and I can’t figure out (with some research online) why they would want her to get Lovenox once a week. Please advise us if this has been done before and what were their results.
