What Medicine To Take For Swelling Due To Falling?

My husband is 55 yrs old, and has a pretty bad head and chest cold. He took a generic, otc, recommended dose of Dayquil like meds. Now, at work yesterday (he is a logger) he stopped himself from falling off a ladder that was attached to the side of a Yarder, which resulted in him over-extending his right arm and shoulder. He is in pretty bad pain today, and wants to know what he should take for the swelling etc. He would normally take Ibuprofen, but the cold meds say no, so, here I am, hoping you can help us.
