What To Do For Irregular Periods?

Good day doc,my period is i-regular just like my mom and other sisters. I tried to drink althea pills to regulate my period without asking the OB.only my sisters refer that pills to me cause her OB told her to take that pills cause we have same case,now it s already 3months taking that pills and it s effected.my period came every month but not exactly same date..can I continue to drink this doc or better to consult my OB?thanks
