When Will Ovulation Start After Coming Off Depo?

I've been on depo shots for 3 years. I'm currently trying to get pregnant and my next shot is due oct. 31st (next Monday). I won't be going. So since it will take so long for me to start ovulating and to get my period back, would it be better to get on birth control pills to start back my ovulation and period? Please help, I need answers.
