My 14 year old son has epispadias. He has a very short shaft. Boston Children's Hospital believes that some of the appearance can be solved by plastic surgery where they simply remove fat/tissue away from the base. My son (and I) don't see how this is going to work. After 30 hours of surgery in the first 13 years of his life, he has very low confidence anything will work. I keep trying to get Boston's Childrens Hospital to release the ligaments at the same time they do the platic surgery, but they are reluctant. After plastic surgery and releasing the ligaments, the only other option I can find is phalloplasty (a desperate last resport). Are there any new options anywhere in the world ? I've even contacted Dr. Atalas at Wake Forest about regenerative tissue engineering, but the last time I checked, it wasn't ready. Any thoughts ?
