Question : My 16 year old daughter takes Vyvanse and Intuniv daily for ADHD. She is having her wisdom teeth removed tomorrow under IV sedation with an oral surgeon. Can she take her regular dose of vyvanse and Intuniv before the procedure? Or possibly a reduced dose of the vyvanse? WIll it interact with the meds given in the IV sedation? SHe takes these meds year round and doesn't do well without them.
Brief Answer:
Your Physician should know about the medications and the sedation...
Detailed Answer:
Hello.First of all thanks for approaching HealthCareMagic for your query. I have read through your query.
Accordingly I feel that before the procedure you must meet the physician and tell him about the dental procedure.
The dental procedures IV sedation drugs could have (I am stressing COULD HAVE) adverse reactions with Vyanavase. I prefer that you to talk with the dentist also about the drugs she is taking and get consent from physician and also from dentist (if you have facilities why to take a risk )as it sometimes may not (70%) have problem but why to take risk and have tension.
Thats my opinion. PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE.
So I suggest you to have a talk with dentist and get a letter from him stating the various drugs for IV sedation to be used tomorrow and meet up the physician and get an OK fitness certificate from him. Sometimes the treatment may get delayed by a few days, but nevertheless its safety of the child that's more important( If I was in your position I would have done this).
So be cool and think and act accordingly. Everything will be fine. Hope you have benefited from this reply. If you have more queries be free to ask as we are always here to help you.Have a healthy day!!!
