Question : What does it mean if I have a uric acid level less than 2 mg/dl?
Brief Answer:
Serum uric acid level is low.
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX
Normal of level of uric acid in females is between 2 and 6.5 mg/dL.
So,serum uric acid level less than 2 mg/dl is low.
Low levels of uric acid are less commonly seen than high levels and it is usually not serious.
However it is important to exclude conditions like Fanconi syndrome, syndrome of inappropriate diuretic hormone secretion(SIADH) or liver diseases such as Wilson's disease can cause low uric acid levels.Low purine intake can also cause low uric acid levels. It may also be low due to drugs like allopurinol(used to treat gout), corticosteroids, warfarin etc.
It is important to know clinical details and reasons for investigations.
