Question : what is mildly enlarged liver with diffuse hyperechoic parenchymal echotexture
Brief Answer:
Please post the full report as it is.
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query, albeit short and specific.
To recapitulate: Male/41 - visited a Doctor - under liver medicines - wants to know what is mildly enlarged liver with diffuse Hyperechoic parenchymal echotexture.
This looks to be an ultrasonography report.
In ultrasonography as the name suggests the probe applied to your abdomen sends the ultrasononic waves in the abdomen which are reflected back and are picked by the machine in the same probe, sent to an inbuilt computer and procesed in such a way the the image is seen on the screen.
This image has gray scale which is called echogenicity. This echogenicity is obviously different for different organs as they are made up of different tissues.
Hence all will differ a bit.
The Radiologist is well trained as well as the machine gives the proper readings and chance to compare to the images to the norms fed into the machine and the experience of the radiologist.
Hence when the liver size is just above the norms, it will be reported as mildly enlarged.
Rest of the words:
*diffuse- means same all over the liver, not in patches.
*hyperechoic - Hyper means more, echo is the shadow it forms on returning back the ultrasound waves from the tissues. Hyperechoic means the waves are strongly returned back due to the more resistance offered to the waves.
*parenchymal means the tissues of the liver (in this case).
*echotexture means the texture of the shadow it gives.
Hence overall the ultrasonography machine is showing more echo coming back from the tissues of liver and in the diffuse means from all over the liver.
I hope this answers your query.
