Hi,
I am 24 years old.I have been suffering from what I thought as hemorrhoids for last 2 years.I was getting stinging pain during and after bowel movement, with occasional bleeding. My GP prescribed a soothing cream called Smuth and lidocaine for pain.I am also taking psyllium husk. But 6 months ago the problem recurred and this time I visited a gastroenterologist,he inserted finger there and said first degree pile and can be treated with medicines. He asked me to continue Smuth cream and prescribed a fiber supplement. But now 20/09/2010 I got the pain again this time I went to famous gastro-surgeon he inspected and said there is no pile and it is a fissure. He prescribed Diltiazem gel and duphalac as a mild laxative,i am continuing with psyllium husk .from last one week or so stool is passing smoothly ,but pain is severe like someone is stabbing there with a knife!!.I am really scared of surgeries .I am thinking about next bowel movement in office also!!Please tell me whether this is acute or a chronic case ?and can Diltiazem gel heal the fissure?

thanks in advance
